C O R P O R A T I O N Feaured Cusomer The relationship between The Salvation Army and CentiMark Corporation began in September 1989, when Hurricane Hugo hit the South Carolina coast. At that time, CentiMark’s Chairman and CEO Ed Dunlap made the decision to donate a percentage of profit made from any hurricane roofing work directly to The Salvation Army for their tireless work in the communities that were in need of help. CentiMark has worked at every The Salvation Army hurricane disaster area since then to install temporary and permanent roofs on buildings. Similarly, The Salvation Army was always at the same places taking care of food, clothing and shelter for the victims of the hurricanes. Our business and charitable relationship was rooted during those difficult times after hurricanes and continues today. The Salvation Army is also a CentiMark customer. CentiMark has worked The Red Kettle Campaign CentiMark offices proudly support The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign as a winter holiday season tradition. Did you know how the Red Kettle collections began? In 1891, Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee was distraught because so many people in San Francisco were going hungry. During the holiday season, he resolved to provide a free Christmas dinner for the poor. He remembered how at Stage Landing in Liverpool, England, where the boats came in, there was a large, iron kettle called “Simpson’s Pot” into which passers-by tossed a coin or two to help the poor. The next day Captain McFee placed a similar pot at the Oakland Ferry Landing at the foot of Market Street. He placed a sign that read, “Keep the Pot Boiling” and soon had the money for Christmas dinners for the poor. Captain McFee’s kettle idea launched a tradition that has spread not only throughout the United States, but all across the world. Everywhere, public contributions to The Salvation Army kettles enable the organization to continue its year-round efforts at helping those in need.
